Much respected for compiling the highly acclaimed Eskimo, Culture Club and Serie Noire mix albums as well as mix excursions for Fabric and !K7, Belgian top-DJs The Glimmers bring us another outstanding mix compilation as they return to their Eskimo roots. ˜Eskimo 5™ features 19 timeless tracks by such diverse names as Shirley Bassey, Primal Scream, Herb Alpert, LCD Soundsystem, Eugene Record, Trio, Tussle, The Caravan and The Glimmers themselves. From gold-plated divas to tripped-out rock n rollers and forgotten europop nuggets to world music stompers; the Glimmers show us once again how to dig that little bit deeper whilst still retaining the hearbeat of the dancefloor. ˜Eskimo 5™ continues the leftfield dancefloor assault that the pairs first release for Eskimo Recordings did in 2000. Now some seven years later, Eskimo has gone from strength to strength with mix CDs from Optimo, Ivan Smagghe, Headman, Prins Thomas, Radio Slave, Rub N Tug, Recloose, Chromeo, DJ Naughty and artist albums from Lindstrom & Prins Thomas, Lotterboys and Ray Mang with many more lined up for 2007 and beyond. The Glimmers are the best-known DJs from the notorious party city Ghent and are definitely two of the most original and innovative DJs around. Having started their turntable career in the mid-eighties, long-time friends David Fourqaert (aka ˜Benoelie™) & Mo Becha can look back at twenty years of club & music culture. From old school hip-hop, dark new wave and vintage acid house to Belgian new beat, balearic disco and sleazy pop music  their record collection is incredibly eclectic. And so are their DJ-sets. Neither trendy nor retro, The Glimmers have a passion for pleasing the crowd. For years, they attracted party-goers from all over Belgium to Ghent and are now known as two of the most in demand headline DJs around the world. In 2000 they programmed the first Eskimo compilation. ˜The Past Presents The Future, The Future Presents The Past™. Their amalgamation of New Beat, Funk, Dub, House, Techno, Party Hip Hop, New Wave and edgy Post-Punk Disco was a revelation to those bored of linear mix albums. It slayed Europe as did its three follow up releases. In that same period they created a mix CD for Blue Note called 'Sidetracks' and to honour their roots in Ghent they compiled two New Beat compilations, Serie Noire 1 and 2, and paid homage to Ghent's coolest club with Culture Club Volume I and II. Until the turn of the millennium, The Glimmers were one of the best kept secrets of the international DJ-scene. Now, it seems as if the world wants their ultra-soulful sets. London, Lisbon, Paris, Fashion shows, Berlin, Munich, Barcelona, Madrid, Warsaw, NYC, Miami „ over the past few years, crowds all over the world have been going mad over the Glimmers™ music. And the best is yet to come. In the meantime remixes have been made for Bloc Party, The Killers, New Order, Frank Popp Ensemble, Arbeid Adelt!, Roxy Music, Isolee, Phoenix, dEUS, Shirley Bassey, Love Is All, Kenneth Bager, Snow Patrol, Calvin Harris and most recently The Chemical Brothers as well as the boys releasing numerous 12s under their ˜Dirty Minds™ studio moniker. ˜Eskimo 5™ is the 20th mix compilation put together by the Mo and Benoelie and shows no signs of letting up in their quest for the obscure, unusual and downright funky.
