Before the acclaimed “Acabou Chorare,” Os Novos Bahianos, as they were known during this period, released their first album, “Ferro na Boneca,” in 1970. With a slightly different style from its successor, the album was a significant debut that announced the arrival of one of the greatest groups in MPB (Brazilian Popular Music). Celebrating its 45th anniversary, the album returns to shelves on 180-gram vinyl as part of the “Classics on Vinyl” collection from Polysom.

“Ferro na Boneca” consists of 13 tracks, all written by Moraes and Galvão. The group, which also included Paulinho Boca de Cantor and Baby Consuelo, presented a different sound in this debut work. More connected to the psychedelic rock of the 70s and regional sounds, they did not feature the samba characteristics found in their later albums. Side A opens with the title track and includes “Colégio de Aplicação,” “Outro Mambo, Outro Mundo,” “Dona Nita, Dona Helena,” among others. Flipping the record reveals “Baby Consuelo,” “Curto de Véu e Grinalda,” “O Samba me Traiu,” “Tangolete,” “Juventude Sexta e Sábado,” and concludes with “De Vera,” a song presented at the “V Festival de Música Popular Brasileira” by Rede Record in 1969.
